William Wilfred Mason

He was a Methodist later United Church. Went to Srigley and Honeywood schools. He bought his fathers farm (Richard Tribble Mason) May 30, 1930. West half of lot 28, second concession west of Hurontario St., Mulmur Twp., County of Dufferin. Sold farm April 2, 1946 (Auction sale March 20, 1946). Purchased home on Codrington St. (No. 72, later re-numbered 268) Barrie, ON. from George Holloway May 9, 1946. He had a market garden and worked for Prince of Wales School on Bradford St. and later the Civil service, Base Borden retiring January 1962. He died in Leisure World Nursing Home, Barrie. The funeral was at Jennett's Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. William Fritz, March 27, 1991, Buriel at Union Cemetery, Barrie. Military Service, WW 1 Enlisted (inducted) May 10, 1918 at age 20, serving in England and France. Discharged (demobilization) March 24, 1919. He travelled from Canada to England in a cattle boat, in convoy. Crossing time was about two weeks. He departed from Canada May 24, 1918 destined for training camp in Whitley, England. Oct. 17, 1918 landed at Bolougne France then by train to Etaples Canadian Base. Arrived St. Amand, on Oct. 29, 1918. To front lines Oct. 30, 1918 at Freinies, and into lines again Nov. 4, 1918 at Onning. Arrived in Mons on Nov. 12,1918, on guard of honour for the occasion of King Albert's visit to Mons on Nov. 27, 1918. Feb. 13, 1919 left Havre for England on board the Duchess of Devonshire for Weymouth England. Left Bramshott for Canada Mar. 12, 1919, arrived in Halifax Mar. 20, 1919, then by train to Toronto. Arrived in Toronto Mar. 23, 1919, and home on Mar. 29, 1919. Branch of Service: 1st COR (Canadian Overseas Regament).
