John Mason

John came to Canada in the 1850s. He was married in England before coming to Canada to seek work in the new world. He had a wife and three children. He intended to send for them when he became established. As a skilled brick maker he found work at a brick yard in the Keele - Eglinton area of Toronto. The brick yard was owned by a Charles Mason from Lincolnshire, England, no proof of relationship. Before John could send for his family his Wife died. One of the children, John Mason, came to Canada. He died at age 55 of pulmonary tuberculosis in a Toronto hospital for Incurables in 1908. He was buried in Necropolis Cemetery on Parliament St. in Toronto. No record of the other children who stayed in England. John Mason Sr. married his second wife in Canada She was Mary - Anne Mason, sister of Charles Mason who had employed John on his arrival in Canada, and the daughter of John Mason and Anne Blackburne. They were Married about 1857, She was born about 1831 in Sutterton Parish, Lincolnshire, England, and died September 13, 1862, in Peel County, ON Canada. Buried in Ebenezer United Church Cemetery, Peel County, ON. They had three children, William Mason b Dec. 21, 1857, Peel County; Jane Mason, b May 24, 1861, Woodbridge, ON: Annie Mason, b about 1860 John's third wife, Susan Tribble, outlived John. They had six children. Three brothers and sisters of the Tribble family came to Canada, John, James,William, Eliza, Mary and Susan. Parents were Richard and Susan Tribble. Their home was Oakwell Farm (Limebers) Umberleigh, Devin, England. They were baptised in a church in Nympton. Oakwell farm is about 15 miles beyond Kings Nympton (Umberleigh Bridge is shown on the map). A brother, Richard J. remained in England.
